A GOAL OF HEARTLAND RANCH AND ARENA IS RESPITE CARE
Short term respite care in a
new state-of-the-art facility with the latest security, meeting all guidelines
for state and federal governments to help those families dealing daily with the
stress of those with cognitive and developmental disabilities. A live-in administrator will oversee
compliance, secure interns, and secure the services and waivers for the
clients. The facility has four client
bedrooms and will be on a first-come, first-serve basis, with one bedroom
reserved for emergency placement. We understand the number one need in our area
is for quality respite care that stimulates and ministers to the needs of the
DD population. Although a "facility", it is de signed with a
"homelike atmosphere" and will be like a trip to Grandma's house,
where the children will receive care as much like they do at home as is humanly
possible to give. For those who are severely disabled, we have a monorail
system to move clients from the covered carport to the great room, their
bedroom, the shower area, the dining area and into the Snozelen Room. Our
Medical Administrator, Dr. Henry Baughman, MD of Promise Pediatrics in
Ringgold, will oversee all care and administration of medications to our
clients. Our security system, similar to "Nanny Cam" will be available
to parents or caregivers to "check-in" on their loved one. We also
plan to use our facility to have seminars to educate parents and offer support
for them.
STATISTICS SHOW THAT CHILDREN WITH DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES NEED
HELP IN BECOMING PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS.
WALKER COUNTY:
•15% OF STUDENTS HAVE DISABILITIES
•THAT WAS 1,545 STUDENTS IN 2005-06
•56% OF STUDENTS ARE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED
CATOOSA COUNTY:
•13% OF STUDENTS HAVE DISABILITIES
•THAT WAS 1,344 STUDENTS IN 2005-06
•40% OF STUDENTS ARE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED
—Lookout Mountain Community Service that services Region 1 (16
counties) of north Georgia says: “the
number one call to their office is for RESPITE CARE.
It is devastating to
families when their TIME & ENERGY is concentrated on one family member with a serious disability. Other children become angry & rebellious
in a high percentage of cases. 80% of these families end in divorce and slide
into poverty.

This was the first concept of the Respite Care Lodge at Heartland
Ranch. While it will looks like this on
the outside some major changes have been done to make it more disability
friendly and safe for the children and to have room for staff on the
inside. This has brought costs up to
$640,000. A capital campaign will be
started in the next months to cover costs of building the Lodge.
THE RESPITE CARE LODGE WILL HAVE A SNOEZELEN ROOM.
